Decluttering #16 : Your clutter doesn't define you!
Hey all,
Despite a lot of clutter being stuff you like that you never got around to, clutter can also be stuff that you don't like or sometimes it's stuff you kind of like, aspire to like, an aspirational clutter of your fantasy self. Your fantasy self is the self you strive to be but aren't there yet. But you are not your clutter and your clutter doesn't define you!
Sometimes, life creates clutter, or you are busy and things pile up. Clutter can cause worry and worry can cause clutter, but this is not who you are!
You can work through these things! The easiest way to do this, especially if you are busy, is to devote time to 5 to 15 min tasks each day, or even several of these a day if you do have the time. I had a post a long time ago about just washing a few spoons got the dishes done faster! Many decluttering people on youtube recommend 5 to 15 minute tasks too, so I didn't invent this trick by any means! Dishes math, cleaning math, etc, our minds trick us into thinking something will take longer than it actually is!
And just because something is clutter doesn't necessarily mean it can't turn into something that is neat and tidy later on! There might be something you love and adore but it is stored improperly.
What you need to do, besides whether something sparks joy, is to ask yourself whether you will actually use these items or if it is just something you bought to aspire to, but didn't have any intentions of following through. If you can actually put these things to use in a month, then you can keep them. But don't get rid of hardware or home improvement stuff, unless expired. Something you only use a few times a year might become useful if you have a home improvement task or a screwdriver that is not the phillips attachment might become useful if a screw needs tightening (i.e. you usually have stuff that needs the phillips end, but you somehow need a a flat ended one and you decided to biff that out!)
