Thrift 4: The Gentrification of thrifting

The gentrification of thrifting is real.

Thrifting has been seen as something for poor people to utilize, but now, people with money are buying things at thrift stores, reselling things as well, which drives up the prices of the clothes and other things at the thrift store.

Thrifting is now seen as trendy. The new thing now is to post thrift hauls online. People resell finds online on websites such as poshmark, for example. Now things that used to be $5 are now $10 or even $20. In fact, quite a few things at the thrift store, at least clothing wise, are $20. Customers are unhappy because they can buy the same thing new for less. Thrifting shouldn't be just seen as trendy, a fad. It should be utilized to be an environmentally friendly option. People with money are driving up the prices due to demand but also because of the resellers who will flip the item for more than what they paid for. People who are low income cannot afford to buy the clothes and other items at the thrift store because the reselling and rich people overshopping the store is raising prices.

As well, it is hard to find anything vintage or special in thrift stores now. Mostly what is left in thrift stores are Walmart clothing (George), Old Navy, and other cheaper clothing, but with prices that are more than they are worth. The rich are pricing out the poor, just like with the housing crisis.
