Autism Acceptance 4: Fortunate to have my experiences in adulthood (wish other autistics could too!)

 Hey all,

I have stated many times before that I am autistic. Now, a lot of autistic people don't have jobs, or are very underemployed with not lots of hours. Many live at home with their parents or in group homes. A lot of autistic people do not go to university or college. I am fortunate enough to have had a steady adult work history (albeit starting in my mid 20s), fortunate enough to live independently on my own, fortunate enough to have had some pets, and currently Hashbrown (past 3 pets and Hashbrown all are female guinea pigs). I've been fortunate enough to go to university and get a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with honours. I wish that more autistic people could experience these things. Just because autistic people don't all get to work or work full time, or to be very independent, does not mean they are lesser. Sometimes it isn't always that they can't either. There are lots of potential for autistic people. Some autistic people are self employed so they can have some sort of independence. It is great to have entrepreneurship.

I am fortunate to have my experiences as an adult autistic person. I have had a lot of things to deal with in my life, especially my adulthood. In the last few months, I have been recovering from a previous recent battle with mental health that came to a head in January 2025. My shrink has helped me in this with putting me back on my fave antidepressant.

Usually what an autistic needs to thrive, and what thrive means is different for every autistic, is a support network, community. This can be many things. For me, it is family, my shrink, my therapist who is also a social worker, friends, etc.
